How to Stage a Bedroom Being Used by Children

Blog by Elysse Bulloch | September 14th, 2016

Staging a home to sell when you have young children can get complicated. Clearing out is a must.Calgary Home Staging CompanyBut when it comes to the comfort of their bedroom, you don’t have to go completely neutral and sterile to sell. Especially when the new home owners will likely have kids too, it’s possible to stage a bedroom that can work for both your children and theirs.

This photo of a girl’s bedroom in a client’s home in Evergreen Calgary after we provided a staging consultation is a perfect example of how the rules of staging can be adapted to suit your situation. Often the rule of thumb in staging is to present bedrooms in a way that is not too gender specific. But you can still work with the colours your own children love when you think of the potential buyers too.

In this case, the pink emphasis of the bedroom suggests that this is a girl’s room. But when you pay attention to where the colour is actually located, it becomes clear that there is absolutely no work required for the new owners to remove the pink and focus on whatever colour they prefer.

When they move their own family into this empty room, it will be a blank slate with light neutral walls and immaculate hardwood flooring. That’s because the pink is on all the items that will go with the current owners when they move out; curtains, furniture, rug, bedding, accessories.

When you keep the envelope of the room (mostly the large surfaces like walls and flooring) relatively neutral, it makes it easy for buyers to customize for any situation.
