How to Choose the Perfect Couch?

Being in the Staging industry I have picked out a number of couches. The couch is one of the biggest and most important furniture purchases most people will ever make.

Picking out furniture for your can be a challenging experience, I learned that size matters. Our couch only fit two people so if we have too many guest over someone has to sit on the floor. Before you go look decide on how much seating your couch needs to accommodate your life style. I would recommend you measure the room so you know how much available space you have. Couches tend to look smaller in the store then in your family room.

Style and shape play a big factor in how the room will feel when you get the couch home. You need to consider where the couch will be and what purpose it will have i.e. relaxing, formal living, or den. When you get to the store try out the couch, put your feet up relax. Comfort is the only must have feature in a couch.

The shape of the couch has the most impact on the feel of the room. If you have a smaller space choosing a style with narrow arms, this make the piece look smaller which will give you better scale to the room. Couches with one or two cushion tend to give a more modern feel and three cushions tend to be traditional.

Next thing to consider is fabric. Leather is very common which often improves with age where as fabric starts to show signs or wear.  If you have pets or kids look for fabrics with high percentage of polyester to ensure easy care. Tightly woven fabrics are the most cost effective choose because they will wear best over time will retain their appearance better than printed patterns. Wool and cottons are pretty resilient, with easy care but they tend to fade.

Follow these steps and you will find the perfect couch to suit your lifestyle and decorating style.
