Factors to consider in a smaller space include colour, furniture placement, and lighting. Whether you are looking to gain more space or thinking about selling your home here are a few tips to make your house appear larger.
Challenge #1 Colour 
Colour can play a factor in how spacious your home feels. If
you have dark coloured walls it can feel like the space is closing in on you. The
dark colour will absorb the light. A lighter colour on the walls is a better
choice as they are more reflective instantly opening the space to make it feel
bright and airy.
The most favorable colours to choice for resale or to maximize your space are soft tones of cream, blue, green and even lilac these colours will make the space seem more inviting and make the space seem larger.
Something to keep in mind is to paint the trim and baseboards a lighter color than the wall colour. This tricks the eye, giving the illusion that the walls are further back, making the room look and feel larger.
