Buyers only know what they see and smell so if there is no evidence they will be none the wiser. You can clean de clutter and depersonalize all want but bad smells will have buyers hit the road running.
Non smokers are much more sensitive to the smell of smoke then smokers. The smell can linger for a couple hours after lighting up not only that, it affixes itself in the furniture, carpet and walls. These harmful toxins are tricky to remove reducing the value of your home.
To help remove the odors of smoke open the windows and air out your home. Keep the windows open as much as possible. Have all drapes, carpets and upholstery steam cleaned. Wash all fabric items thoroughly to ensure the smell does not return.
Tobacco smell and stains sticks to hard surfaces like walls and cupboards. Cleaners with bleach and ammonia help to cut the smell but results are often brief. You may need to consider priming and painting walls to cover the smell. Painting only, will not work the smell and stains just emerge through the paint and the odor will return.
If after wiping and washing down everything and you still find there is a ting of smell left. Fill small containers with vinegar or coffee beans place and around the room both will absorb odors, remove before showings.
Part of my job as a home stager is to help you get your home ready for the market. Smoking is one of the hardest things to address with sellers, but believe me when I say it’s putting the fire out on your sale.
